Waar de meeste scholen voornamelijk bonen en maïs koken, kiezen wij ervoor om twee keer per week bonen te koken. Op de andere dagen vervangen wij de bonen met groentes, zodat de kinderen een gevarieerd weekmenu hebben. Ook de prijs van bonen is in de afgelopen periode helaas flink gestegen. Een kilo bonen kost €1,40, terwijl dit voor de droogte nog €0,60-€0,80 per kilo was.

Maternity package
Many Maasai-women deliver their babies at home. They often live far from the hospital and do not have proper transportation to get there. After giving birth, the woman gets blood from a cow or a bull (depending on the gender of the baby). They mix the blood with milk and drink it in order to regain some strength. In the few months after birth a mother only eats warmed-up food. The Nanginyi Foundation offers maternity packages to new mothers in need. The package of €10 consists of: rice/beans/maize, sugar, tea, soap, body lotion and cooking oil. The package of €15 also contains a small Maasai cloth for the new baby. With the purchase of this maternity package you can make sure that a Maasai woman has enough means to recover after giving birth and to take care of herself and her new baby!
Suiker
Suiker kopen we voor de school altijd in grote zakken van 50 kilo. Groot inkopen is namelijk voordeliger, want de kiloprijs van suiker schommelt regelmatig. Suiker wordt elke ochtend gebruikt voor in de thee of in de maïspap.
Local nursery school
In 2018 the Nanginyi Foundation started to establish a local nursery school in the boma. Nine girls and Nine boys between 4 and 6 years old from different boma's in the neighbourhood are coming to the boma of local coordinator Mathayo 5 days a week to follow education. In this way we want to introduce education to the local community and show that it is also important for girls. The children will be taught in different subjects and sports and creativity will be part of the curriculum too. In the morning they will be provided with a breakfast (tea with sugar and milk and bread or porridge) and there will be fruits during the day. To keep the local nursery school running we need money for materials, the breakfast and to pay a contribution for the teacher. Every donation is therefore welcome to support our local nursery!
Fruitpakket
Op Nanginyi Nursery School krijgen onze kleuters elke dag vers fruit en ook de kinderen die op de zaterdagen naar ons bijlesprogramma komen, sluiten de dag af met fruit. Fruit is een luxe product dat de kinderen thuis nauwelijks krijgen. Wij vinden het daarom heel belangrijk dat ze dit bij ons op school wel krijgen. We wisselen het fruit af, afhankelijk van het seizoen. De kinderen eten onder andere sinaasappels, bananen, watermeloen, ananas en mango. Per week zijn we €5 euro kwijt aan het fruit dat we kopen op de lokale markt. Wilt u ervoor zorgen dat de kinderen kunnen blijven genieten van het verse fruit? Koop dan een fruitpakket!
