The children who are being sponsored by the Nanginyi Foundation live far from their school, in the middle of the savannah. The roads to their boma are inaccessible for the school bus. In order to make sure that the children can easily go to school, we would like to give them bicycles. This is also more sustainable than using the bus. The school is positioned at the edge of the savannah, therefore the children to not have to cycle on dangerous roads.
By giving the parents good bicycle locks, we give them the responsibility that the bicycles will only be used for transportation to school. There will be yearly costs for maintenance of the bicycles but we try to keep the costs as low as possible. With you purchase you can make sure that we can save up to buy sturdy bicycles for the new children that will join our project.

School uniform
All children who go to school in Tanzania have to wear a school uniform. For girls, the uniform consists of: a sweater, socks, a blouse and a skirt or a dress. For boys it consists of: a sweater, a blouse, a pair of pants and socks. Next to this, the children need a sports uniform, which consists of a t-shirt with shorts. The children only wear their uniform when they are at school, in order to make sure they can use their uniform as long as possible. The parents of the children have the task to wash and alter/repair the uniforms, as we think it is important they have responsibilities. Since the children wear their uniforms daily and are still growing, we believe they need a new uniform every year. With your purchase you can make sure that one of our children will have a nice school uniform for a year.
Goat or sheep
Cattle is very important to the Maasai. They work hard to take care of their herds and to keep the animals safe and healthy. You could compare a herd to a savings count. When sheep or goats reproduce, the herd will grow. In times of need, a sheep or goat can be sold in order to earn some money. A small goat, that after a few months has become bigger, can be worth a lot more on the market. For example, by donating 1 goat you can make sure that a Maasai family in five years does not have only 1, but 3 goats! The Maasai use the fat and milk of the goats, and eat the meat of the animals if they die or when they are butchered for a special occasion.
School fees
One of the main goals of the Nanginyi Foundation is to provide access to education for the children. Five days per week they go to the Sasa School, which lies at the edge of the savannah, where they live. They get their lessons in English. We pay the school fees for the children at the beginning of the school year. The school year in Tanzania starts in January and ends in December. The children get days off during all national and religious holidays, and get a month off in June. School fees are our largest expense every year, so every donation is welcome! Access to education gives the children a chance for a brighter future!
Food package
The Nanginyi Foundation sponsors families who do not have enough food to eat every day. It is important for the Maasai to eat well, as they perform hard physical labour and need a lot of energy. The Nanginyi Foundation sponsors food packages with rice, beans, maize/corn, tea, sugar, cooking oil and, when available, some vegetables and fruit. Our local coordinator will put together the food packages depending on the current food prices and availability. He will then deliver them to families in need. When you buy a food package in our webshop you can make sure that a Maasai family in need will get support.

Geit of schaap
Vee is voor de Maasai heel belangrijk. De kudde kun je vergelijken met een spaarrekening. Als geiten of schapen zich voortplanten kan de kudde uitgroeien. In geval van nood kan een geit of schaap verkocht worden om zo geld te verdienen. Een kleine geit die na een aantal maanden groter en dikker is, kan zo ineens heel wat meer waard zijn op de markt. Met het doneren van een geit of schaap kunt u er dus voor zorgen dat een gezin dankzij u over 5 jaar niet 1, maar 3 extra geiten of schapen in de kudde heeft lopen! De Maasai gebruiken geitenvet en geitenmelk en ook het vlees van geiten en schapen wordt gegeten als de dieren overlijden of ze geslacht worden voor een speciale gelegenheid.

Ondergoed
Aan het begin van het nieuwe schooljaar krijgen de kinderen onderbroeken en hemden van Stichting Nanginyi. Maasai kinderen dragen thuis in de boma geen ondergoed, maar voor de kinderen die naar school gaan vinden wij het belangrijk dat ze ondergoed dragen onder hun schooluniformen voor de hygiëne. Zo kunnen de kinderen ook zonder problemen fietsen, op het plein rond rennen, klimmen en koprollen.
Maternity package
Many Maasai-women deliver their babies at home. They often live far from the hospital and do not have proper transportation to get there. After giving birth, the woman gets blood from a cow or a bull (depending on the gender of the baby). They mix the blood with milk and drink it in order to regain some strength. In the few months after birth a mother only eats warmed-up food. The Nanginyi Foundation offers maternity packages to new mothers in need. The package of €10 consists of: rice/beans/maize, sugar, tea, soap, body lotion and cooking oil. The package of €15 also contains a small Maasai cloth for the new baby. With the purchase of this maternity package you can make sure that a Maasai woman has enough means to recover after giving birth and to take care of herself and her new baby!
Schooluniform
In Tanzania dragen alle schoolkinderen een uniform als zij naar school gaan. Dit uniform bestaat voor de meisjes uit: een trui, een blouse en rok of een jurk en sokken. Voor een jongen bestaat het uit: een trui, een blouse, een broek en sokken. Naast een schooluniform voor de lessen, hebben alle kinderen ook een sportuniform: een t-shirt met een sportbroekje. De kinderen dragen het uniform alleen als zij op school zijn, zodat de uniformen zo lang mogelijk meegaan! De ouders van de kinderen zorgen voor het wassen en het eventueel herstellen van de uniformen van de kinderen, wij vinden het belangrijk dat zij deze verantwoordelijkheid hebben. Aangezien de kinderen het uniform dagelijks dragen en nog volop in de groei zijn, gaan wij ervan uit dat zij elk jaar een nieuw uniform nodig hebben.
